According to Antarctica bear, recently, Xiehe Jiangnan hospital / the first people’s Hospital of Jiangxia District orthopedic trauma joint group successfully operated on a patient with comminuted fracture of tibial plateau, which is the second successful result of combining 3D printing technology with traditional orthopedic operation.
The 68 year old father, who was injured in the head and left knee due to a car accident, was admitted to the hospital with diagnosis of extradural hematoma, comminuted fracture of the left tibial plateau (Schatzker VI type), and small head fracture of the left fibula. In order to shorten the operation time, improve the efficiency and operation quality, Yang Junzhong, the director of orthopaedic department of the hospital, proposed to use 3D printing technology to assist the operation, develop the operation plan and precise treatment.
Digital design combined with 3D printing technology has printed out the damaged tibia, fibula and femur models. Under the leadership of Yang Junzhong, Hu Hao, deputy chief physician, Xiong Jiating, deputy chief physician, Huang pan, and Huang Chuanwen, members of the orthopedic trauma joint expert group, had a pre-operative discussion. According to the model, they accurately understood the type of fracture, designed the surgical incision, pre operation steps, the placement of the internal plants and the reduction skills during the operation, and developed a feasible treatment plan. The operation was carried out according to the plan. After the operation The recovery was also satisfactory.
